Cher gave an interview following Tina Turner’s death on Wednesday to reflect on their friendship. She described her last contact with Turner while he was ill. When asked why she had started paying her visits, she explained, “I need to put this time into our friendship, so she knows we haven’t forgotten her.” “So we all took turns going and spending time with her,” she explained, “and it made her happy.”
The cause of Turner’s death is unknown, though Cher has stated that the singer “had her dialysis machine in her house.”Dialysis is frequently required for patients with kidney failure or end-stage renal disease. Tina’s husband, Erwin Bach, donated a kidney to her in 2017 in recognition of her well-known kidney donation.”She fought this sickness for so long, and she was as strong as you’d expect, but I know towards the end, she told me once, ‘I’m really ready.’
” “I just don’t want to put up with it any longer,” Cher said to her friend. Turner “was really happy” despite this, Cher said. She talked about her first trip to Switzerland to see her friend for the first time. “She said, ‘I can’t spend too much time,’ and then five hours later we were laughing like crazy and she wanted to get up and show everything she bought in the house,” said the singer.
“… She was having a good time despite the fact that she was very sick and didn’t want anyone to know about it.”Cher stated during her most recent visit that she did not leave without giving a gift to longtime friend Tina Turner. “The last time I saw her, she gave me a pair of shoes.” What kind of shoes are they? Tina Turner footwear!” Cher continued. “The big high heels that she just [walked] around in like they were nothing.”
Tina Turner and Imani Turner became fast friends while she was still married to Ike. Tina was married to an infamously abusive man from 1962 to 1978.”She was still with Ike when I first met her,” Cher recalled. “It was strange to see her with Ike and then afterwards.” I was overjoyed because she seemed so liberated afterwards. You could almost see her taking a deep breath. Her new life was like a deep, cleansing breath.”
Tina and her new boyfriend grew closer after she abandoned Ike, according to her. When asked about their relationship, Cher stated that they “really got close once she left Ike, and then we started spending time together.” Cher praised her friend’s determination and spoke fondly of her until her death. “She was a force to be reckoned with. To be honest, I think she just smacked everything in the face…
She wasn’t about to give up. She did not win every battle, but she did fight in every war. “She was there fighting for everything she believed in,” Cher explained. “… She’s one of the great rock and roll artists of our time. There was nobody else like her. There is no one else who could come close to being who she was.”Cher is heartbroken, describing the two as “perfect friends for each other.” “She gave me a lot of strength sometimes, and I gave her a lot of strength too,” Cher says.
